High-Performance SteelA budget friendly, reliable, top-of-the-line Chinese produced steel, 8Cr13MoV steel has carbon and slightly less nickel for hardness and edge retention. Kershaw’s precision heat treated 8Cr13MoV steel strongly takes and holds an edge and offers wear resistance that can withstand damage from both abrasive and adhesive wear. 8Cr13MoV is a value blade steel featuring high performing characteristics. |
Attractive Blade CoatingBlack oxide coating is a chemical bath, or conversion coating, that converts the surface of the blade steel to magnetite. Mainly for appearance, black oxide does add some mild corrosion resistance and tends to minimize light reflection from the blade. The blackening process gives the blade an attractive, smooth, tactical, fierce black surface that is very desirable to knife owners. |
Fast DeploymentUsing a torsion bar to move the blade out of the handle, Kershaw’s revolutionary SpeedSafe Assisted Opening system enables smooth, secure, fast one-handed blade deployment. Apply manual pressure to the flipper or thumb stud with a light push or pull back to overcome resistance of the torsion bar, and the blade opens smoothly and locks into place for confident handling without premature closure. |
Secure Locking SystemWith two steel plates, or liners, on the inside of each handle scale, the liner locking system safely secures the blade open and prevents unwanted blade closure. The lockbar butts up against the blade’s backend to prevent closure, and angles or is bent towards the blade tang creating a bias locked position. Apply manual force to move the lockbar to the side and fold the blade back into the handle. |

One-Handed FlipperKnives with SpeedSafe open have two options for one-handed blade deployment. To activate the smooth, instant open, user can push a thumbstud or press a flipper. The flipper on SpeedSafe assisted knives is easy to operate by both left- and right-handed users. And, once blade swings open and locks into place, flipper either disappears for aesthetics or remains visible for added finger protection. |
Durable HandleVery tough, able to take heavy-duty hard use, and versatile, glass-filled nylon handle material is a nylon synthetic polymer reinforced with glass threads for increased strength. Glass-filled nylon has incredible stiffness for a secure and stable grip, great ability to withstand heat, and dimensional stability combined with excellent wear resistance. |
Convenient PocketclipKershaw designs pocketclips to fit specific knives according to their weight, intended end use, size, style and hardware. Some knives have multiple carry options, others are more streamlined. The 4-position pocketclip allows tip-up or tip-down carry on both the right and left sides, providing users the most versatility. Proper use of the pocketclip promotes safety and efficiency while using knife. |
Product Description
The Brawler starts with a modified tanto blade—a shape often found in tactical and rescue knives that may be required to punch through tough materials. You’ll notice that the top of the Brawler’s blade has a grind, too—a swedge. It helps narrow the blade, adding to its piercing power. At the same time, the Brawler’s straight belly offers excellent cutting capacity, is perfect for bearing down on a task, and is easy to resharpen. Equipped with our assisted opening for easy, one-handed blade release and a four-position pocketclip for versatile carry. All this makes the Brawler an excellent utility and multipurpose knife.
You can look to Kershaw for everyday carrying knives that can tame any cardboard box and liberate any purchase from its plastic packaging, sporting knives that make hunting, fishing, watersports, and camping even better, work knives that won’t let you down, and tactical knives that ensure you’re ready for anything.

The open assist feature is extremely useful when I want to get things open quickly. I also have carried a knife in the hopes that it will help in a self-defense situation but the knives I carried would never actually be any help due to their flimsy-ness. This, while small, is very sturdy. I have dropped it numerous times and there is still no blade wobble. The blade itself is thick and everything is sturdy.
The only disappointments weren't even anything to worry about. The size makes it perfect for EDC, but it's just a tiny bit small for me since I am 6,3 and 240 pounds. However it's barely noticeable in the pocket and the clip is strong. The other mild complaint was how the open assist took about a day to really get working. It was stiff at first, but simply opening it several times fixes that and it evens out quite well. Again, not even really a complaint.
Also, very probably THE SHARPEST knife I have ever picked up. I know have about 12 folders and 3 large fixed blades and NONE of these got close to how sharp this blade was straight out of the box. I could shave skin and hair alike.
So here's what I could find for pros and cons:
Pros:
1. Perfect for carrying every day for a wide array of tasks.
2. Open assist is strong and very helpful. Also a tad bit intimidating/cool looking.
3. Comfortable in the hand for a variety of grips.
4. Sturdy, doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart any time soon.
5. Sharp, sharp, sharp. Probably the sharpest knife I have ever gotten.
6. Cheap, but not lacking in quality.
Cons:
1. A teensy bit small for ME. Probably not for anyone else. I am a bit larger than your average person, so that's to be expected.
2. Took about a day to get the assisted open mechanism to smooth out.
That's about it. I hope this helps. Bottom line: If you want a good quality but still affordable EDC knife, this is it.
-Gary
