Product Description

self inflating mat
what's included

How Does It Self Inflate?

The Sleeping Pads have a special open-cell foam inside which starts inflating as soon as you open the valve. Please Note: The cells only inflate enough to provide insulation, if you want a full firm pad you will need to blow a couple of breaths into the valve. Remember to close the valve when you reach your desired pad firmness.

How to use:

  1. Unfurl the sleeping pad and open the self-inflating valve.
  2. You will hear and feel the mat starting to inflate, depending how tightly it was packed, this can take some time.
  3. If you are looking for just the insulation then you can leave the pad as is, ready to go.
  4. If you want a firmer, fuller pad you can blow a couple of deep breathes into the valve.
  5. When the pad has reached your desired firmness close the valve, by twisting clockwise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warm and Comfortable
Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2018
I purchased this pad mainly to prepare for some forecasted night time temps in the 20s for a camping trip near Onion Valley in the Sierra Nevadas in late March to early April. After looking at many other pads on Amazon I decided on this one for its R value and price. The pad inflates easily but I inflated it more because it was a little rocky under my tent. I also put down a thin blanket under the pad as a precaution, but the material feels pretty sturdy. Temperatures ended up being about 10 degrees higher than forecasted but it was very windy and made it feel colder but I slept unexpectedly well as I had never used a sleep mat. It was far more comfortable than the air mattress I used for previous trips and I didn't feel any of the rocks underneath, plus it was really warm. Combined with my bag I actually felt a bit too warm especially on my back, but I see that as it doing what it's suppose to. I slept comfortably on my back and side with no problem, though I think each person has to adjust it to their personal preference as I had mine inflated very full and firm. For reference in case anyone is a side sleeper, my sister used the exercise foam tiles and said it hurt to sleep on her side and hurt her hip. One issue I did have was with some sliding. This mostly had to do with the slight slope the tent was on but the smooth surface of the pad plus the material of my sleeping bag probably exacerbated it. Though this is not a big issue for me.

The pillow was not really a factor in my purchase and I was wary but brought it in lieu of an actual pillow because I was trying to cut down on the bulk. It's a decent size and I don't really have any complaints. I would use it again to save space.

The pad itself can be a little bulky but if you're not backpacking this shouldn't be a problem. It's far easier to set up and pack away than an air mattress, so much so that I feel it's superior, especially in comfort and warmth. The bags that house the pad and pillow are also very generous so you're not struggling to stuff in everything. I think the addition of a strap on the bag would make carrying easier. Overall I am very happy with the insulation and comfort of the pad and the pillow is a nice extra. I will try it out again in colder temperatures to see how it holds up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy and Comfortable!
Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2020
I like these because I don't like the fuss of a big air mattress when camping but I also would not survive directly on the ground. They inflate really fast and I always just give them a couple extra puffs of air so they are perfect for us. They seem really thick, the valve is reliable, and I never have to worry about them losing air.. I do have some minor back/hip problems so I did wake up a little sore but honestly it was to be expected. For what these are I'm really happy with them, and I would buy them again! My husband and I bought two and snapped them together (seriously really LOVE that feature because we have a queen sleeping bag and it worked out perfect!). Storing/packing them is a cinch, they are easy to roll up, not at all a haslte to get back into the bag, and they are very lightweight. Very easy to clean and take care of...we got rained on one night and WE stayed dry but the bottoms of the mattresses got damp. We packed them up like normal but when we got home we took them out and wiped them down with some lysol wipes and let them dry in the sun. Good as new, no icky damp smell! If you use common sense and take care of these they will last a long time.
